Contest Guidelines

Who, What, Where, When

Total Health Chiropractic is challenging you and your family to engage in and encourage our community to participate in an exercise and nutrition program during the Fall of 2009.  The 12 week contest is called the Total Health Fitness Challenge and will be held from August 17 through November 8, 2009.

Challengers exercise through 33 workouts, advancing to the next workout by satisfying one daily exercise requirement*.  (You get to pick the exercise to perform.)  The challenger with the greatest participation at the end of the period is the overall winner. 

The cost is $27 to participate.  Every additional immediate family member (husband, wife, dad, mom, son, daughter) can participate for $5 each. 

First Place will earn $750, Second Place $300, and Third Place $100.  Registration for the event will officially begin August 3, 2008. 

You can pick up your challenge kit(s), pedometer, water bottle, and canvas “green” tote bag on August 17 and later at Total Health Chiropractic in Lansing.
 

How to Register

Click on the Register button to your left.  Enter your information.  If you are a family member of a previous registered participant, enter that family member's name in the last box.  Click on Register.  You will be taken to the payment screen.  If you are a an individual, click on the button next to $27, then click on SUBSCRIBE.  If you are family member of a registrant, click on the button next to $5, then click on SUBSCRIBE.  If you enter for $5 but no family member entered, you are not eligible for any cash or prizes unless you pay the difference.

How to Participate

You will exercise your way through 33 workouts of your choice, advancing to the next workout by satisfying one exercise requirement* - doing one or more of the “Eligible Exercises” listed.
 

*Exercise Requirement

To advance, you must complete a minimum of 20 minutes of moderate exercise in a day, accomplished during a single session or in at least 10 minute increments.  Each workout is worth ten (10) points.  For example, to successfully complete the program within the 12 week period, you will need to workout at least three times per week for 11 weeks of the contest period.  Each challenger is allowed only one workout per day.

How to Report Your Progress

Go to www.TotalHealthFitnessChallenge.com and log-in with your username and password.  Click on the "Workouts" link in the left menu.  Click on the workout you’ve just completed and enter your activity information.  It will track your progress and the workouts you have completed.

We encourage you to log in daily, or at least weekly, so that your statistics can be accurately reported at all times throughout the 12 weeks of the Challenge.  By not logging in your progress at least weekly, particularly if you do so during the latter part of the program, you could affect the final outcome of the Challenge.

If you do not have access to the internet, you can use the Paper Logging Sheet.  You must submit the Paper Logging Sheet to Total Health Chiropractic by November 9, 2009.

Eligible Exercise Categories

Below is a list of eligible exercises for you to choose from in order to participate in the Challenge. Any exercises not listed do not qualify and should not be included in your time logged in. All exercise types are worth ten (10) points.

  • Walking/Jogging/Running/Bicycling/Rollerblading
  • Swimming Laps/Water Aerobics/Kayaking/Canoeing
  • Court or Field Sports (tennis, racquetball, handball, basketball, football, soccer)
  • Aerobics Classes (jazzercise, step, high/low impact)
  • Aerobic Machines (treadmill, stepper, rower, hand cycle, elliptical, skier, stationary bike)
  • Strength and/or Flexibility Training (lifting weights, pilates, yoga, curves/circuit training, calisthenics)

Bonus Activities and Fitness Events

If you participate in an exercise/charity event (i.e. 5K race, Triathalon), you will receive five (5) bonus points for each race.  There will also be health classes and events in which you will earn eight (8) points for participating.  Refer to the Fitness Events Calendar on the website for eligible activities.

How the Winners are Determined

The winner will be the challenger who accumulates the greatest number of points throughout the competition.  In case of a tie (three or more participants with the same number of points), the total purse will be divided equally among the winners.
